E-Learning: Exploring My Leadership
Leaders are all around us –we encounter them in our work and our communities, and we read about them in the press- but have you ever wondered what it is that leaders actually do? What makes a good or even great leader? Whatever role you have, we believe that anyone can develop and enhance their leadership skills and approach.
Working through these interactive courses you will:
- Learn what is meant by ‘leadership’ and the key responsibilities of a leader
- Explore different approaches to leadership
- Have a clearer understanding of your leadership strengths and areas for development
- Reflect on what motivates you and the role that purpose plays in leadership
- Develop a plan to take forward your learning and develop as a leader
Each of the courses in this programme has been designed to support you in gaining a deeper understanding of the topic, whilst providing tools and space to reflect on what it means for you and how to develop your practice of leadership.
What You’ll Learn
45-60 minutes
What is the difference between leadership and management and why does it matter? Do we need both in our organisations? Can one person be both a leader and a manager? Navigate these questions through this course, where you will look at the different tasks associated with management and leadership and where there may be overlap. You will explore the responsibilities of leadership and things to consider during the transition into a leadership role. This understanding will enable you to identify how to gain a better balance between leading and managing in your role and plan for how to better allocate tasks to support this and step up to leadership.
45-60 minutes
In this course you will explore the characteristics and qualities of good leadership and identify how you and the context in which you work affect this. You will also look at purpose and how this connects and impacts on your leadership. You will identify your leadership strengths and relate this understanding to the context you work in, planning for how to use and develop these to support social change.
45-60 minutes
In this course you will explore 6 different leadership styles based on the work of Daniel Goleman and consider different situations when they are likely to be most effective. You will identify and reflect on which styles come easier for you and which styles you might want to try to develop for yourself. You will have time to consider some of your current challenges and consider how you might be able to use different leadership styles to deal with these. By understanding different leadership styles you can develop your own approach to leadership, and plan for how to become a more effective leader as a result.
