The Just Enterprise programme continues to demonstrate a significant impact across Scotland’s social enterprise sector in 2024. In the first two quarters (April to September), the programme achieved significant milestones, surpassing targets across all core services.
Start-up Support
Demand for start-up assistance remained strong, with 250 enquiries received, exceeding the half-year target by 17%. Just Enterprise has approved one-to-one support to 114 individuals, nearly doubling the anticipated figure at this stage of the year. Additionally, 290 webinar views were recorded, a 212% of target, reflecting on going interest form social entrepreneurs in starting a social enterprise.
Business Support
The programme saw 195 enquiries for one-to-one business advice, with 158 organisations approved for tailored support—33% above target. Business planning, financial forecasting, and crisis support were among the most requested services. The programme also delivered specialist advice in digital marketing, tendering, and measuring social impact, helping organisations strengthen their operational strategies.
Leadership
Leadership programmes continue to be popular, attracting 147 enquiries. Five programmes are already underway, supporting 54 learners and 4 Boards. Leadership coaching was another high-demand area, with 16 individuals receiving personalised guidance. We are on track to surpass annual targets, with upcoming programmes already fully booked for early 2025.
Diversity and Inclusion
Just Enterprise maintained its strong commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, with 70% of service recipients identifying as female, and 22% from ethnic backgrounds other than ‘White British’. Additionally, 52% of supported organisations reported that their client groups included individuals with protected characteristics, ensuring that the programme’s impact reached diverse communities.
Workshops and E-learning
18 Business Skills Workshops were attended by 148 participants, covering topics such as business planning, strategic planning, and social investment.
Feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive, with 98% of attendees expressing satisfaction. The workshops helped participants develop practical skills tailored to their organisations’ needs, with themes like artificial intelligence, charitable trading, and funding business growth proving particularly popular.
The e-learning platform continues to thrive, with 153 registrations and 87 learners already engaged in courses on leadership, social impact measurement, and tendering. With more courses set to launch, Just Enterprise is well-positioned to meet its targets and provide ongoing support to Scotland’s social enterprise community.
